When you sign up for Water Street’s Loyalty Rewards, you earn three reward points for every dollar you spend at any of our café locations. These points can be redeemed for discounts, OR you can choose to donate a portion directly to our Featured Non-Profit. From January through March 2023, our Featured Non-Profit is Gryphon Place.

Gryphon Place began as a youth drug drop-in center called Gryphon House in 1970. They launched an overdose aid drug information line, which is now 269-381-HELP. Today, Gryphon Place is the leading agency for suicide prevention in the area and continues to offer several suicide prevention resources, including the 24/7 helpline, The Gatekeeper Program, and a survivors of suicide loss support group.

Gryphon Place is part of the statewide 2-1-1 information and referral system, which connects people to a variety of resources, including housing or utility payment assistance. They are the local volunteer center for Kalamazoo. Gryphon Place also offers Restorative Justice trainings and has a Restorative Practices program in schools, which is often used as an alternative to punitive discipline in order to keep students in the classroom.

In 2022, Gryphon Place took over 120,000 calls on the 2-1-1 and crisis lines and reached 4,600 students through the Gatekeeper and Restorative Justice programs.

Each September, Gryphon Place hosts their Annual Suicide Prevention Walk. This is a day to come together to support one another, to break stigma, to raise awareness, to educate, and to save lives. September of 2023 will mark 10 years of this event! In addition, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, they host the MLK Day of Service with the City of Kalamazoo. This event encourages our community to participate in this National Day of Service volunteering for local organizations. Learn more about these events and more on their website here.

Water Street’s Loyalty Rewards Program began in 2018 and features a new non-profit each quarter. With the help of our customers, we've been able to give over $12,400 to non-profit organizations to help support the important work they do in our community.
