When you sign up for Water Street’s Loyalty Rewards, you earn three reward points for every dollar you spend at any of our café locations. These points can be redeemed for discounts, OR you can choose to donate a portion directly to our Featured Non-Profit. From April through June 2022, our Featured Non-Profit is Prevention Works.

Prevention Works provides vital evidence-based educational programs and strategies to thousands of Kalamazoo community members, particularly those in under-served areas. Today, innovative programs help youth and families confront high-risk behaviors and issues to prepare them in leading successful, healthy lives. Major programs address substance abuse education/prevention, violence prevention, adolescent health, parenting and family life education, and social/emotional well-being.

In addition to these core programs, Prevention Works also serves as the home for the Kalamazoo County Substance Abuse Task Force, a dedicated group of community members that develop strategies, programs, and practices to address equity, health disparities, alcohol and substance abuse issues in our community. This effort involves reducing access to substances, preventing high-risk behaviors, promoting community awareness, connecting community resources, and providing health education and promotion.

As with many organizations in 2020-2021, Prevention Works had to reimagine how to connect to the community with vital services. Despite the many challenges, they were able to open their doors and created a Learning Hub. The Hub provided a safe and structured learning environment with accessible Wi-Fi, technology, tutoring, mental health services, school supplies, meals, and staffing to supervise in-person learning for Kalamazoo Public School students.

Supporting non-profits throughout Kalamazoo county

Water Street’s Loyalty Rewards Program began in 2018 and features a new non-profit each quarter. With the help of our customers, we’ve been able to give a total $11,904 to non-profit organizations to help support the important work they do in our community.
