Water Street Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate Recipe
As the colder days settle in, it is officially hot chocolate season at Water Street Coffee!
We serve several different hot chocolates year round, but we especially love our signature Sleeping Bear Hot Chocolate (with the perfect touch of cinnamon) and Cocoa Del Sol (with a spicy pepper kick) in the colder time of year. Both drinks have a dreamy richness and intense chocolate flavor that get a lot of love from our customers! And at the holidays, we like to encourage our customers to share the love by packaging these yummy shaved chocolates in a bag that’s perfect to take home to family and friends.
And they have so many uses! Either chocolate can be used as a substitute for cocoa powder or chocolate chips in your holiday baking, for example. The Water Street Kitchen often includes them in their brownie, coffeecake, and scone recipes. Yum! Each bag also includes a recipe for making an individual serving of hot chocolate at home. It’s the perfect solution for those nights when you just don’t want to brave the cold or snow and let’s be honest … Michigan gets some pretty killer snowstorms so it’s important to be prepared.
And finally, in order to help spread the hot chocolate love even further this year, we wanted to share this Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate Recipe. It’s a perfect beverage to serve or bring with you to all your holiday parties this season. So please stop by any of our five cafes from now until January to get a bag (or two!!) of your favorite chocolate and share the love.
Water Street Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate
Serving: Makes approx. 6 cups
*This recipe is meant for a 1.5-2 quart slow cooker. Recipe can be doubled to fill a larger pot.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 cups milk
- 1 12 oz package of Water Street Sleeping Bear or Del Sol Chocolate
DIRECTIONS
- In slow cooker, combine all ingredients and stir. (tip: save a pinch or two of chocolate to sprinkle on top at the end)
- Cover and heat on low for 1-2 hours or until chocolate is melted. Stir or whisk occasionally to make sure the chocolate doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot.
- Once chocolate has melted completely, serve with fresh whip cream or marshmallows and a sprinkle of chocolate.
*Our chocolate is semi-sweet so if you decide you want your hot chocolate sweeter just add 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla or try adding sweetened condensed milk for a seriously sweet treat!
**Want some caffeine to go with that chocolate? Replace 2 cups of milk or more with freshly brewed coffee.
