When you sign up for Water Street’s Loyalty Rewards, you earn three reward points for every dollar you spend at any of our café locations. These points can be redeemed for discounts, OR you can choose to donate a portion directly to our Featured Non-Profit. From July through September 2022, our Featured Non-Profit is First Day Shoe Fund.

First Day Shoe Fund provides new shoes to students in Pre-K through 5th grade at Kalamazoo County public elementary schools throughout the school year.

Founder Valerie Denghel realized this need through her volunteer work in Kalamazoo Public Schools, where she noticed students were wearing shoes that were the incorrect size, tattered, or worn. First Day Shoe Fund believes that every child should start school on equal footing, and distributes a new pair of properly fitting athletic shoes to any student in need.

Not only do new athletic shoes foster self-esteem in students, thereby improving their school performance; these shoes also allow students to participate in healthy activities both in and out of school.

Since incorporating in 2006, First Day Shoe Fund has distributed over 45,000 pairs of shoes. In 2021, they distributed over 5,200 pairs of shoes, and anticipate an even greater contribution in the 2022 school year.

Supporting non-profits throughout Kalamazoo county

Water Street’s Loyalty Rewards Program began in 2018 and features a new non-profit each quarter. With the help of our customers, we've been able to give a total of $12,197 to non-profit organizations to help support the important work they do in our community.
