Papua New Guinea Riverside Mill SOE

Papua New Guinea Riverside Mill SOE

This microlot from the Eastern Highlands region of Papua New Guinea comes to us through the efforts of Moses Venapo, a producer and entrepreneur in the region who wanted to offer smallholders better access to higher market prices as well as more traceability. Moses established a cherry buying facility and set up a wet mill in his backyard, which enables him to buy coffee still in cherries and do the sorting and processing himself. This is in stark contrast to the majority of coffee processing in the surrounding region, as the coffee is usually delivered in parchment to roadside delivery points and processed into large lots. This allows Moses greater control over the process as a whole as well as giving smallholders direct feedback into their growing practices.

Sweet, tart, and savory all at once, this coffee shines as an espresso with distinct pomelo and sage flavors.

Aroma: cooked tomato, savory
Flavor: sweet, pomelo, sage
Acidity: grapefruit acidity
