Water Street Coffee gives back with Grounds for Giving

A new year brings a renewed spirit of generosity to many of us; a desire to do what we can to make the world a better place. With that spirit in mind, Water Street has decided to launch an exciting new way to give back in 2018. We are calling it Grounds for Giving.

Water Street Coffee wholesale partners will be able to choose a community-focused non-profit organization from a list, and at the end of the year, 1% of their wholesale purchases from Water Street will go to that organization. The list has been carefully selected, with some local Kalamazoo organizations, Detroit area organizations, and greater Great Lakes region organizations being represented. Water Street’s wholesale partners are diverse, and span throughout Michigan and beyond, from restaurants and cafes, offices, healthcare, grocery & convenience stores, to hospitality and religious organizations. Grounds for Giving provides an opportunity for all of us to give back to organizations we can collectively believe in.

As Water Street Coffee celebrates our 25th birthday, we realize we would not be where we are today without the amazing support of our community.

“With Grounds for Giving,” says owner, Mark Smutek, “we are able to raise awareness of the community organizations we believe in, and give our customers a chance to help support these causes as well.”

Have you visited one of Water Street’s wholesale partners in the Kalamazoo community or beyond? The next time you do, your support not only directly benefits two local businesses, but Grounds for Giving allows it to also extend to an important community organization that you may or may not be aware of. For example, the cup of delicious Water Street coffee you order at Michelle’s Restaurant helps Michelle’s, Water Street, and possibly an organization like Girls on the Run, inspiring a new generation of girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.

Together, we can make a difference not only in our local Kalamazoo community, but in a larger one like Detroit as well. Did you know you can get a freshly brewed cup of Water Street coffee at Royal Oak’s The Office Coffee Shop? When you do, you could be supporting the great work that the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program does to encourage and engage Detroit-area students. No matter where you are, when you support one of our wholesale partners, you are helping to give back to the community around you.

In 2018, our wholesale accounts will each be able to pick where this money will be donated, from the list below:

Kalamazoo Community Foundation

Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

Girls on the Run

Alliance for the Great Lakes

Grounds for Health

Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program

Gleaners Community Food Bank

Recovery Park

In order to help a variety of organizations, Water Street Coffee may change and update this list from year to year.
