Fair Trade Peru Norte – Fresh Crop
Historically, Peru has lagged behind other high profile specialty coffee producing countries in South/Central America, due in large part to the remoteness of many farms as well as the lack of supporting infrastructure by the government for small farms. However, this is quickly changing due to the support of outside organizations who see the potential for great micro-lot specialty coffee. Boasting lush highlands and heirloom varieties, Peru is poised to enter the spotlight. This coffee comes from 400 smallholder farmer members of Lima Coffee, an up and coming cooperative at the forefront of the specialty coffee scene in Peru. A washed coffee grown at 1650 - 1800 meters above sea level, look for a delicate and distinguished cup with a profile reminiscent of sauvignon blanc.
